Wildfires tore through Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada a few months ago, leaving a trail of devastation that drove over 90,000 residents from their homes. Among those displaced were over 600 IAM members who work and live in the area.
After the flames were extinguished, it seemed only ashes and destruction was left behind. However, stories of solidarity from IAM members quickly emerged. Fort Mac Strong highlights a few of those stories.
One of the bright spots for IAM members affected by the wildfires has been the IAM Disaster Relief Fund. By the end of next week, over 400 members will have received financial assistance from the fund totaling $100,000.
The IAM Disaster Relief Fund was established as an easy way for members to help members and their families who endure hardships as a result of natural disasters. Click here to donate online. If you have questions, call the IAM Retirees, Community and Membership Services Department at 301-967-4717.
