Senator Cortez Masto: ‘We Are the Builders, We are the Machinists’

U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) delivered remarks at the 40th IAM Grand Lodge Convention, addressing the importance of union jobs, protecting workers’ rights, and strengthening unions’ bargaining power.

“We have been able to accomplish so much in this short period of time in Congress because of all you, because of your advocacy,” said Cortez Masto. “It matters when your voices are being heard not just in Capitol Hill but in our communities.”

Cortez Masto was born and raised in Las Vegas and has been a fervent advocate for Nevada’s working families throughout her professional career. She served two terms as Attorney General of Nevada and in November 2016, she made history by becoming the first woman from Nevada and the first Latina ever elected to the United States Senate.

“We are the builders, we are the Machinists,” said Cortez Masto. “We are the ones who keep things going.”
